Dublin City Exiles opened the 2022 Rugby League Ireland Premiership season with a 24-10 victory at Galway Tribesmen. Athboy Fighting Irish versus The Longhorns RL was postponed. [References: 1-2]

Round 2 (4 June 2022)

The Longhorns RL drew 24-24 with Galway Tribesmen in Round 2 of the RLI Premiership. Again Athboy Fighting Irish had their game postponed, this time versus Dublin City Exiles. [References: 3-4]

Round 3 (11 June 2022)

Dublin City Exiles won their second game of the season 26-16 at home to The Longhorns RL, while Athboy Fighting Irish got their season underway with a 14-44 loss to Galway Tribesmen. [References: 5-6]

Round 4 (Magic Weekend – 2 July 2022)

Dublin City Exiles defeated Athboy Fighting Irish 30-0 and Galway Tribesmen had another hard-fought match with Longhorns RL, winning this time by 36-28 to go clear in second behind the Exiles. All matches this weekend were played in Tullamore RFC, Co. Offaly as part of the Magic Weekend. [References: 7-8]

Round 5 (9 July 2022)

Two forfeited games in Round 5 saw Dublin City Exiles profit at the expense of Galway Tribesmen and Lomghorns RL at the expense of Athboy Fighting Irish [References: 7-8]

Round 6 (16 July 2022)

Athboy Fighting Irish forfeited again, this time to Galway Tribesmen while Dublin City Exiles won 52-22 at Longhorns RL [References: 7-8]

Semi-Final (23 July 2022)

Longhorns RL defeated Galway Tribesmen 26-18 to put them into the All-Ireland Grand Final. The game was hard fought in rainy wet conditions at Claddagh RFC in Galway. [References: 10-11]

Report

History was made in early June 1997 when the Tallaght Tigers Rugby League team travelled to Clonmel, Co. Tipperary to take on Kilkenny in the first ever Irish Challenge Cup match, which the Dublin side won 52-44, going on to meet Clonmel in the next round. The Tigers went all the way to the Final where the met original Irish Rugby League team Dublin Blues, who won 24-16., with tries by D. McCartney, D. McNamara, E. Hendy and D. Stanley, as well as four conversions by G. Kinane.

Euro XIII Rugby League 2021 [Reference: 2]

About

Euro XIII is a new European Professional Rugby League Cup, operating mostly in the non-traditional Rugby League areas of Europe. Dublin Blues will compete with teams from Edinburgh (Scotland), Rhonnda (Wales), Birmingham (England) as well as 12 other teams from Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, Hungary, Greece, Turkey and Moldova.

Dublin Blues are Ireland’s oldest Rugby League team, founded by Brian Corrigan in 1989, and who won the inaugural Grand Final in 1997 in Rugby League Ireland, defeating Tallaght Tigers, and also that year becoming the first Irish side to compete in Rugby League’s Challenge Cup in Britain.

In 2008 the club folded, but were intending to come back last year as an outfit playing in the English Leagues, although the prospect of an Irish team playing all their games on the road put them off and with the new Euro XIII Cup the working group set about entering and have so far signed up two Irish internationals and a Head Coach. A shortened 2020 Rugby League Ireland season saw the six teams divided into two Conferences of three teams each, with two scheduled games per team. Galway Tribesmen opened with a 16-12 victory over Barrow Cudas RL (Carlow) in the Southern Conference, while Longhorns RL (Ashbourne, Co. Meath) opened with a convincing 64-6 defeat of Athboy Rams.

Report

Ireland did brilliantly at the European Wheelchair Rugby Championships Division B competition, held in Prague, Czech Republic, from 13th to 18th April 2015.

The Irish came second in their group after defeating Italy and Austria, but losing to France, and then in the Semi-finals, defeated Pool A Winners, Switzerland, before falling in the Gold Medal game to France for the second time.
