Round by Round Recaps

Round 1 (28 May 2022)

Dublin City Exiles opened the 2022 Rugby League Ireland Premiership season with a 24-10 victory at Galway Tribesmen. Athboy Fighting Irish versus The Longhorns RL was postponed. [References: 1-2]

Round 2 (4 June 2022)

The Longhorns RL drew 24-24 with Galway Tribesmen in Round 2 of the RLI Premiership. Again Athboy Fighting Irish had their game postponed, this time versus Dublin City Exiles. [References: 3-4]

Round 3 (11 June 2022)

Dublin City Exiles won their second game of the season 26-16 at home to The Longhorns RL, while Athboy Fighting Irish got their season underway with a 14-44 loss to Galway Tribesmen. [References: 5-6]

Round 4 (Magic Weekend – 2 July 2022)

Dublin City Exiles defeated Athboy Fighting Irish 30-0 and Galway Tribesmen had another hard-fought match with Longhorns RL, winning this time by 36-28 to go clear in second behind the Exiles. All matches this weekend were played in Tullamore RFC, Co. Offaly as part of the Magic Weekend. [References: 7-8]

Round 5 (9 July 2022)

Two forfeited games in Round 5 saw Dublin City Exiles profit at the expense of Galway Tribesmen and Lomghorns RL at the expense of Athboy Fighting Irish [References: 7-8]

Round 6 (16 July 2022)

Athboy Fighting Irish forfeited again, this time to Galway Tribesmen while Dublin City Exiles won 52-22 at Longhorns RL [References: 7-8]

Semi-Final (23 July 2022)

Longhorns RL defeated Galway Tribesmen 26-18 to put them into the All-Ireland Grand Final. The game was hard fought in rainy wet conditions at Claddagh RFC in Galway. [References: 10-11]

Grand Final (30 July 2022)

Dublin City Exiles were 2022 Rugby League Ireland Men’s Premiership All-Ireland Grand Final winners. [References: 12]

About RLI Men’s Premiership 2022

The Rugby League Ireland Men’s Premiership is the top level Rugby League division in Ireland, featuring four teams for 2022: Dublin City Exiles, Galway Tribesmen, Athboy Fighting Irish and The Longhorns RL. Rugby League is 13-a-side compared to 15-a-side in Rugby Union and also does not utlilise Lineouts or Scrums.
